PMS & the 4
Labeled Under Feature |
This is a post specially dedicated to the wonderful + talented people we’ve worked with in the year 2009. To 4 of our favourite ‘design kids’ – Zillieman, Safuraa, Stesha & Sin Dee, it was you guys that kept our momentum going and made many things possible for PMS! Thankiu & we love you long time!
In conjunction with the PMS x zOMG! event last October, we got each of them to come up with an artwork using the human body as their canvas. Hailing from different design backgrounds of Graphic, Fashion, Interior & Architecture, here’s what our ‘design kids’ got their hands (very) dirty with:
Stesha Ho Jushen
Bachelor in Applied Science (Fashion Technology)
Concept:
“Basically I wanted to combine 2 different elements that are contrasting. I’m accustomed to working on evening wear fabrics that I thought I could try something a bit different. Somehow the juxtaposition of the leather worked really well with the softness of the feathers. What this garment really represents is feminism. I think it really captures the modern day women; really head strong and confident but a lady nonetheless. ;)”
Stesha is currently studying in RMIT. She specializes in couture wear and hopes to pursue her dreams of starting a couture label some day. For those of you who love heavy beading, keep an eye on her, she does crazy work with ‘em!

Nur Safuraa Abd Razak + Fazil Fuad
Architecture + Bachelor of Arts(Communication Design)

Concept:
“What really pulls us together is our passion for photography. Why photography? Because we appreciate what’s beautiful. Our perception of beauty is different as we see things from a different perspective; we appreciate the metaphysical values in things that people generally overlook- and we capture it for the world to see. The art pieces are a symbol of how we perceive things. It acts as plaster or paint on our canvas, which is the model. We see the sharp edges, striking colors and awkward shapes while others are only fixated with the human form. We have no fashion background whatsoever so we decided to deliver a message instead:
“Look a little closer. Think just a little bit more. You might just miss something.”
Safuraa is a freelance photographer and full time architecture student. She hopes to become a hybrid of Bjarke Ingel + Annie Leibovitz + Yasmin Ahmad. You can stalk her at her blog; her photos are pretty damn breathtaking, bringing you to a world of travel, portrait & fashion photography.

Zillieman fell in love with photography ever since his dad passed him his first Canon F60. He mainly shoots fashion & events but love to dabble with everything in between. Strongly believes that the perfect picture doesn’t come by technical efficiency/equipment but with one’s ability to intrigue/play/stimulate the viewer’s perception through his or her knowledge of light.

Sinn Dee Chong
Bachelor of Interior Design

Concept:
“As cliche as it sounds, my art piece was inspired by a hanging lamp. Light bulbs generate light, but the bulbs on my art piece glow with the aid of glow-in-the-dark paint. I’m never fully satisfied with what is designed, so instead I dab around with art+ functionality; I guess it becomes more playful in that sense. It’s about transforming something of general function to a playful art piece, like how a plain hanging lamp can be wearable art.”
Sin Dee studied diploma in Interior Architecture and is now pursuing her Bachelor of Interior Design in Swinburne University of Technology.
